Yikes, looks like I compiled ShortcutRecorder against the wrong framework. I’ll see if I can get a point release out soon to fix that.

I quite enjoy KeyCastr.
However, I found that it didn’t display the “words (my typing)” in my Mac even when I’m at the maximum font size.
Then, I changed “Selected visualizer” into “Svelte”. I found that it only can detect the “Command”, “Alt”, “Shift” and “Control” buttons in the bottom of box, but displays nothing in the large box when I type.
Could anyone help me? Thank you!

Hi Godfrey,
Make sure you’ve got ‘Enable Access for Assistive Devices’ checked in the Accessibility control panel. KeyCastr requires that in order to function properly. KeyCastr is supposed to warn you in this case, but there’s a bug in the released version.
Hope this helps!

I have the same problem in my macbook with OSX 10.5.8, and you were right and that solve it, i also found that will be useful to found some “position presets” in the preferences, since it took me a few minutes to figure out how to move it with the default theme, since i have to type something and grab the stroke display and drag it, also, with be usefull to have an option to make the older strokes down instead of up, since i like to use it on top of the screen.
great utility, i hope you find my comments usefull to yo
Having trouble getting Keycastr to launch on two machines, one using 10.4.11 PPC and the other 10.4.11 Intel. I try to open it but nothing happens. I’ve made sure to select ‘Enable Access for Assistive Devices’ but still no dice.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Keith

Having trouble running keycastr on two mac machines – a macpro and a G5, both running Mac OS 10.4.11. I’ve “Enabled access for assistive devices” but it doesn’t seem to help. When I try to open the program nothing happens.
Really like what I’ve seen of the utility, but haven’t been able to get it to work. Any ideas?
Thanks

For those of you who are having trouble getting this to work properly on MacOS 10.6 (Snow Leopard). You can build this yourself by doing the following:
1. Download Xcode (if you don’t already have it)
2. Download the source code.
3. Open the project file (should be KeyCastr.xcodeproj
4. Change the build active sdk to MacOS 10.6 (upper left drop down of main xcode window)
5. Build and run.
I just might create a dmg and post it so people can download.
Matt: great work! Figures that Linux would make it easier to do. If you’ve got a screenshot, I’ll mention you in a blog post.
Rudi: I don’t know of any Windows equivalent. I had hoped to restructure KeyCastr to make it cross-platform, but it would take too long; the code is all Cocoa/ObjC based. I think I’ve probably already spent too long on it as it is, anyway — I didn’t expect anyone to actually use it.
Gordon: As soon as I can get my hands on Snow Leopard, I’ll release an update. I’m a little behind the curve these days.

I’d need a tool like KeyCastr for a Windows computer. Do you have plans to do that or can you point me to a software doing that?
As for us a computer is not a religion but just a tool we use mainly Windows-based machines.
Thanks!
Rudi
For people looking for a similar linux solution, I wrote a similar program, pykeyview[0].
cheers
