KeyCastr 0.8.0 Coming Soon
I’m very close to finishing KeyCastr version 0.8.0. This version is a complete rewrite from 0.7.x, with improvements across the board:
- Easier-to-understand source
- Redesigned visualizer
- Plugin architecture
- Open-sourced under the BSD license
- Redesigned icon
- Menu bar item
- …and lots of bug fixes
I’ve already promised a few people that it would be released two weekends ago, but I wanted to let everyone know that it’s really very close to being finished and will be released soonish.

Cool, I’m looking forward to it. 0.7.3 gives me a “Could not connect to KeyCastr service application” error, and I hope 0.8.0 fixes it.
(I’m running OS X Leopard 10.5.6.) I’d like to start doing some screencasting soon, and getting KeyCastr working on my machine would be sweet.
0.8.0 definitely fixes the problems KeyCastr has under Leopard. I spent most of tonight polishing up the default visualizer; I’ll need another four hours or so to work on the alternate built-in visualizer and then I think it’s good to go.
I just downloaded KeyCastr 0.8.0, and it works like a charm. Great job!
Great Job!
